Background[]

"Headfirst for Halos" is a song about suicide and depression. When MCR first made this song, they didn’t really take it as seriously as the other songs. They decided that it would be a healthy challenge to try and pull the song off, after they realized how much meaning it held. Now, it is an all-time favorite from their first album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love.[1]

I'm Not Okay.net has the following song meaning on their site:

It's about when you're depressed enough that you are right on that brink of suicide and how you should think about the good things in your life and not always the bad, the pills hes talking about are anti-depressants. "Think Happy thoughts"? They said they wrote this for all the people out there who are just so down on theirselves, that they want to end their lives and that they wanted to make people happy, hence the upbeat tempo and the think happy thoughts.

Gerard said: "This song is about suicide...don't do it."

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
Well let's go back to the middle of the day that starts it all
I can't begin to let you know just what I'm feeling
And now the red ones make me fly and the blue ones help me fall
And I think I'll blow my brains against the ceiling
And as the fragments of my skull begin to fall
Fall on your tongue like pixie dust just think happy thoughts

[Chorus]
And we'll fly home, we'll fly home
You and I, I, we'll fly home, come on

[Verse 2]
Well now I'm back in the middle of the day that starts it all
I can't begin to let you know just what I'm feeling
And now these red ones make me fly and the blue ones help me fall
And I think I'll blow my brains against the ceiling now

[Chorus]
We'll fly home
You and I, I we'll fly home

[Bridge]
Now honestly that's what I said to her

[Outro]
What I said to her
Think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts[x2]
Think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts, think ha-
