Lindsey Ann Way (née Ballato; born May 21st, 1976) commonly known as Lyn-Z, is an American-Scottish musician and visual artist, who is most widely known as the current bassist for the electropunk band, Mindless Self Indulgence. Since September 2008 she has been married to My Chemical Romance frontman, Gerard Way with whom she has one child, Bandit.

Career:

Way was born in Dunoon, Scotland, and moved with her parents to the US when she was around five. Some sources say she lived in Connecticut, while others say Tennessee, though it is possible both are correct in that she first lived in one, and then moved to the other. In 1993 (aged 17), she moved to Brooklyn, New York to attend the Pratt Institute, where she majored in Fine Art and Illustration.

In 2001, she auditioned to be the bassist of electropunk band Mindless Self Indulgence after the departure of original bassist Vanessa Y.T., who had left the band (on good terms) to become an astronaut. Lindsey has noted she had only begun playing bass approximately two weeks prior to the audition. During her audition, in an attempt to impress the members of MSI, she spat a mouth full of alcohol into the air and lit it on fire to achieve a flamethrower effect.

She is very well known for her high-energy during live performances, including regular stage diving and a low backbend held while still playing her instrument. Her signature performance outfit includes a miniskirt, high pigtails, heeled boots, and red lipstick.

Personal Life

It has been said that she and Gerard Way were introduced in 2003, on the day My Chemical Romance performed as the opening band for and Mindless Self Indulgence.

Lindsey and Gerard reconnected in 2007, when both bands were acts in Linkin Park's touring festival Projekt Revolution. The were two married in Colorado on September 3, 2007, the final date of the tour, in the backstage area of the venue after the day's performances had concluded.

On May 27th, 2009 it was announced on Twitter that Way had given birth to their child, named Bandit Lee Way.

Lindsey has said the family own 2 cats, named Mitch and Lotion.

On December 20, 2019, she and Bandit attended the My Chemical Romance "Return" performance in Los Angeles.

In October 2019 tweeted "Happy #internationallesbianday"; after user @androgynope responded with "thanks lindsey ur an honourary member of our club xo", she posted a reply tweet saying, "My first love was a woman. My first serious relationship was with a woman and so was my first long term relationship..."

Lindsey was regularly active on Twitter until June 2020, and has received criticism on the platform regarding conflicts with her close relatives, Jessicka Addams of the band Jack Off Jill, and others.
